HERO Research Program
The HERO Research Program provides online research opportunities to rising juniors or seniors under the mentorship of professors from top US universities.
Students will focus on one of the five research tracks: Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Business. After choosing a topic of interest, students will be obligated to take two online courses - research methods and research communication. The program will culminate in a full-length research paper to be presented in the annual HERO Symposium at Stanford. Exemplary works can be published on the SVRI young scholar journal. Each student will receive two college credits from the California State University. College recommendation letters may also be provided under the discretion of the HERO faculty.
INTERNATIONAL FACULTY
HERO selects its mentoring faculty based on academics and passion for teaching. Our faculty are professors a nd researchers from top US universities and research labs/departments in cutting cutting-edge Silicon Valley based companies. Some examples of institutions at which HERO faculty are working at: Stanford University, USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UCSF, California State University, Apple, Google, Meta, Uber, and Amazon.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The application process requires the following materials:
1) The application form
2) A 350-word essay on why you are interested in participating in this program
3) A high school transcript for 2023-2024 school year
4) A recommendation letter from a teacher or counselor
5) A writing sample in PDF format, 2-page maximum. It should be from the current academic year. The writing sample must reflect individual writing abilities – a collaborative paper will not be accepted. Examples may include an English essay, a history paper or a science report. If your original sample is longer than allotted, please select up to two pages that best represent your writing style.
